Evatane®
Ethylene Vinyl Acetate Copolymer (EVA)
Product range
Evatane® resins are ethylene copolymers with a high vinyl acetate content (18% to 42%). Evatane® is more elastomeric than polyethylene, compatible with a wide range of polymers, and easy to process. Evatane® copolymers are used in many applications for many markets such as hotmelt adhesive, ink, wire and cable, automotive, encapsulant film for solar panel, packaging and road bitumen modification.
Applications
Hot melt adhesives
Hot melt adhesives are solvent free thermoplastic polymer blends.
Evatane® copolymers main features in hot melt adhesive (HMA) technology are their high compatibility with:
- Tackifying resins, adhesion promoter
- Paraffin and waxes, viscosity modifiers
High fluidity Evatane® resins are used in ternary HMA (EVA + resins + waxes) for packaging, bookbinding, labelling, deep freeze, woodworking, and textile.
Wire & Cables
Two main applications for Evatane in the cable industry: HFFR and semi-conductive layer.
HFFR (Halogen Free Flame Retardant)
HFFR formulations are based on ethylene copolymers blends, Evatane or Lotryl, with polyethylene and high mineral fillers loading, ATH or MDH, to optimize flame retardancy, mechanical properties and cost.
Semi-conductive layer
Semi-conductive layer, internal, external are designed to protect XLPE, EPR insulation layer.
Packaging
Evatane® copolymers are suitable as layer or tie layers for making multilayer structures in packaging thanks to their adhesion on various substrates (PET, PE, PS, PVC).
Blown film
Multilayer blown film are used in flexible packaging applications such as modified atmosphere packaging, vacuum bags, etc.
Evatane 28% (28-03 or 28-05) is the external layer (adhesive layer) of multilayer (barrier with Evasin EVOH, or non-barrier) blown film thermolaminated on PET sheet.
Cast film
Cast films exhibit generally better optical performances than blown films and can be produced at higher speeds.
Cast and blown films are mainly used in packaging applications such as lidding, modified atmosphere packaging, vacuum - sealed bags, and any other application where transparency is required.
Evatane 28% (28-03 or 28-05) is suitable as tie layer for direct coextrusion of PET/PE structures.
Skin film
Evatane® are used for skin films. They provide special properties well suited for packaging:
- Adhesion
- Puncture resistant
- Drawability
- Transparency
Widely used in packaging, ranging from automotive to medical applications, Evatane® skin films specially fit where safety packaging is essential. Evatane® skin films can be printed.
Thermo-adhesives film
The main properties of Evatane® thermo-adhesives films are:
- Adhesion on various substrates
- Transparency
- Adapted rheology
- Low melting point and crystallization point
Evatane® resins are recommended for cotton, PE, PVC rigid, PET.
Compounds
EVA compounds are materials of choice for injection moulding of high-quality sandals, automobiles component and for cross-linked foams.
Sound Dampening
Highly filled compounds are generally used for acoustic absorption, as a noise barrier between the engine and passenger compartments of cars.
Evatane®, thanks to their high filler acceptance, are suitable for such applications.
Foams
Evatane® resins are a polar copolymer able to accept more than 70% of ATH (Aluminum TriHydroxide). Dispersion of filler is optimised, providing very good mechanical and Flame properties
EVA copolymers compounded which appropriate dosage of suitable blowing agents, cross-linking agents and necessary inorganic fillers are used to produce microcellular rubber sheets.
Evatane® main applications are shoe insoles, sport goods, mattress.
EVA foams are also likely to be used for buoyancy aids, such as life jackets and toys.
Inks
Gravure ink is widely used in flexible packaging in reverse print technology.
Usual structures using EVA based inks

Main properties of Evatane® 42-60
Haziness
Evatane® 42-60 is specifically developed to optimize clarity, it leads to superior clarity of the final varnish.
Stickiness
Low stickiness provided by Evatane® 42-60 thanks to unique combination of anti-blocking agents and stabilizers.
Bitumen
Among the polymers used in bitumen for road paving, Evatane copolymers are well known for its compatibility with various bitumen as well as the excellent mechanical properties it brings to asphalt (rutting resistance).
Due to their good compatibility, Evatane® are copolymers of choice to be used in bitumen modification, to increase road safety criteria (skid resistance, stopping distance) and driving comfort (traffic noises, porous asphalt).
Polymer Modified Bitumen
PMB (Polymer Modified Bitumen) with Evatane® copolymers, are recommended to improve the resistance of the binder against crack propagation or stress, for instance resulting from temperature variations.
Evatane® copolymers gives excellent performance to the modified binder in terms of Kerosene & rutting resistance:
- Excellent compatibility with bitumen
- Low viscosity formulation
